AMA warns against swine flu complacency


The Australian Medical Association is warning against complacency when it comes to swine flu and is urging more people to get vaccinated.

According to the AMA the disease is very active in the northern hemisphere and deaths from the virus doubled in Europe in the three weeks before November.

AMA vice president Dr Steve Hambleton says people in the northern hemisphere are having to line up for the vaccine because it is winter.

"You see lines of people lining up for the vaccine in Australia - we've got the luxury of doing it in a more orderly fashion," he said.

"But the roll out has been a little bit slower than we would have liked, so we certainly want to encourage people to get vaccinated and get immune."
